About the Project
Metra Health AI is a comprehensive mobile application designed to simplify GLP-1 medication management for patients on weight loss treatments. The platform combines intelligent dose tracking with AI-powered food recognition that automatically calculates macronutrients, a conversational AI health assistant, and medication absorption curve estimation to help users understand how their body processes each dose.
The Challenge
GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have transformed weight management, but patients struggle to track dosing schedules, understand medication effects on their body, and maintain proper nutrition. Existing health apps lacked the specialized intelligence needed for this rapidly growing patient population. The team needed to build an AI system capable of recognizing foods from photos, estimating macronutrient content, modeling medication absorption curves, and providing contextual health guidance — all within a mobile-first experience that felt simple and approachable.
Our Approach
We built a cross-platform mobile application with a custom AI pipeline integrating computer vision for food recognition, a fine-tuned language model for the health chat assistant, and a pharmacokinetic modeling engine for medication curve estimation. The architecture prioritized offline-first capabilities so users could log meals and medications without connectivity, with background sync when available. A modular microservices backend handled AI inference, user data management, and health insights generation independently for scalability.
